Julia Kuniß (M.A.) studied German, Russian and film history in Berlin and Moscow. She has been working in the field of film and media with a focus on Eastern European cinema since 1998. In her work as a film curator, festival organiser, moderator and PR consultant, she has initiated, curated and managed a large number of film festivals and projects, such as the silent film festival “Between Berlin and Paris” at the Zeughauskino in the German Historical Museum in Berlin and the Berlin Film Festival in Moscow, which took place in 2017 on behalf of the Berlin Senate.
Julia Kuniß has been Artistic Director of the agency Interkultura Kommunikation since 2008 and became its sole director in 2015. She is a founding member of the German-Russian Film Academy e.V. (2009-2019) and co-founder and artistic director of the Russian Film Week in Berlin (2005-2019). Moreover, she regularly advises film institutions, film productions and festivals.
Her articles, film reviews, catalogue contributions and studies have appeared in the following specialist media, among others: Filmdienst, CineGraph, Lexikon des deutschsprachigen Films, epd film, FilmGeschichte as well as in publications of the Goethe-Institut, the Berlinale and the Akademie der Künste.
